iGrant.io joins the Giga Connectivity Forum 2026 event

Description

iGrant.io joins the Giga Connectivity Forum 2026 to share its work on AI-assisted digital transformation in education. The focus is on how standards, reusable building blocks and AI can help accelerate the development of interoperable education services.

Representing iGrant.io, Lal Chandran (Co-founder and CTO) will join the Trustworthy AI and Cloud for Education session on 9 October to present “AI-assisted, standards-based rapid prototyping of an education wallet”. His contribution will show how AI can translate standards, specifications and provider knowledge into a working education wallet implementation, and what this approach could mean for how quickly governments prototype and develop digital education services.

About the event

The Giga Connectivity Forum 2026 takes place on 8 to 9 October at the Giga Connectivity Centre in Geneva. The third edition of the Forum brings together senior executives and decision-makers from Ministries of Education, Ministries responsible for ICT and communications, and regulatory authorities from countries working with Giga. The programme combines country experience, practical implementation discussions and new approaches for advancing the Giga 2030 Roadmap.

A key objective of the Forum is to help countries move from connectivity commitments towards actionable models that can be adapted and implemented. Alongside school connectivity, the programme examines the digital infrastructure that connected education increasingly depends on, including interoperable platforms, educational data, verifiable credentials, AI, cloud infrastructure and government architecture.

About Digital Transformation in Education

The Digital Transformation in Education sessions examine how countries can build education technology into a connected ecosystem rather than a collection of isolated platforms.

The first session, Interoperable Foundations for Education Digital Ecosystems, introduces a shared architecture spanning school-level tools, sector platforms and digital public infrastructure. It also explores developing open technical specifications for priority building blocks, including a learning content repository, educational data and verifiable credentials.

The second session, Trustworthy AI and Cloud for Education, examines AI and cloud as parts of that wider infrastructure. The discussion covers how AI can work with open standards, national data and identity systems and verifiable credential infrastructure, while also addressing cloud choices, sovereignty, regulatory guardrails, enterprise architecture and interoperability.

Our contribution

iGrant.io’s contribution builds on work developed for ITU around AI-assisted education wallet implementation. What began as an education wallet showcase has evolved into a practical platform that combines a knowledge base, reusable AI agent skills, connected education use cases and a live digital wallet simulation.

The platform uses iGrant.io’s Organisation Wallet Suite and Data Wallet to demonstrate how trusted education credentials can move through real-world journeys. The experience connects services ranging from school applications, enrolment and payments to digital degree issuance, job applications and credential revocation.

A central part of the work is the Skills Marketplace, where technology providers can publish reusable AI agent skills that capture the knowledge required to integrate their solutions. Governments and institutions can similarly contribute regulations, policies and implementation guidance, creating a reusable knowledge layer for AI-assisted development. Read the press release on the AI skills marketplace and integration framework for ITU-Giga, or start building with AI agent skills.

Why this matters

Connecting schools is an essential foundation, but connectivity alone does not make education systems interoperable. Countries also need practical ways to connect identity, registries, credentials, data and services without creating another generation of isolated systems.

AI-assisted, standards-based development makes the knowledge behind those integrations reusable. For schools, universities and education authorities, this can simplify administration and credential issuance. Learners can gain greater control over their academic records, while employers and other institutions can independently verify qualifications.

About Giga

Giga is a joint initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNICEF working to connect every school to the internet by 2030. Beyond connectivity, Giga supports governments in building the digital foundations needed for education transformation, including interoperable infrastructure, data systems, digital services and reusable building blocks that can be adapted to national needs.
