Swedish consortium launches NordXDataspace, a reliable, user-centric online data exchange marketplace
Description
A Swedish consortium is announcing today that it has taken the first key steps in establishing NordXDataspace, a full scale online marketplace for the secure, reliable and user friendly exchange of data through digital identity wallets. These holders of verifiable credentials are expected to be made available to all EU citizens over the next couple of years to control the use of their personal data.
The first use case in this, the first registry in an anticipated cross-border network of similar registries, will initially provide access to medical records and other sensitive health information but other applications are expected to be made accessible in the near future.
To share data between individuals and organisations as well as between organisations requires a trust framework which the NordXDataspace network provides. Supported by multiple nodes operated by Redpill-Linpro, RI.SE, iGrant.io and MyData Sweden, the network acts as the trust anchor for data exchange transactions using digital wallets, enabling users and organisations to securely store and share data. By applying distributed ledger technologies, NordXDataspace ensures that all data exchange transactions. are tamper-proof, reliable and auditable.
The four founding members of NordXDataspace are encouraging other organisations to join the network, including the beneficiaries of the four EU-funded large-scale consortia that recently started piloting the application of digital wallet technologies.
“With the introduction of these nodes (trust anchors) users can be confident that data is accurate, reliable, and secure, even in the absence of a central authority. This is crucial for promoting trust and transparency in decentralised digital systems and for ensuring that data is used in ways that are safe and ethical”, says Lal Chandran, CTO iGrant.io.
“We believe that trust networks have the potential to transform the way we think about healthcare and online health data transactions”, said Lotta Lundin, CEO iGrant.io. “For example, by establishing a foundation of trust, we can create a more secure, effective and reliable healthcare system for everyone.”
Redpill-Linpro, RI.SE, iGrant.io and MyData Sweden were all beneficiaries of a Vinnova-funded project, Data4Diabetes.
