iGrant.io joins ETSI CB-AdES Plugtests 2026 to test CBOR advanced electronic signatures

Description

An electronic signature needs to be verifiable beyond the system that created it. For organisations exchanging signed data, consistent handling of signature formats, validation information, and errors is essential to ensuring a reliable exchange.

iGrant.io joins the ETSI CB-AdES Plugtests 2026 with its Data Wallet (EU Digital Identity Wallet) and Organisation Wallet Suite (European Business Wallet). The remote event brings independent implementations together to test CBOR Advanced Electronic Signatures with a focus on signature generation, cross-validation and conformance with ETSI TS 119 152-1.

About the event

Organised by ETSI’s Centre for Testing and Interoperability, with support from its Technical Committee for Electronic Signatures and Trust Infrastructures (TC ESI), this is the first interoperability Plugtests event dedicated to CB-AdES.

CB-AdES extends advanced electronic signatures to data structures encoded in CBOR (Concise Binary Object Representation). Participants will exchange and validate signatures through a testing portal available around the clock, allowing teams to test across time zones.

The programme covers four connected areas:

  • Signature generation and cross-validation: Creating signatures for defined test cases and checking whether other implementations can validate them.
  • Negative testing: Assessing validation robustness and error handling.
  • Signature augmentation: Adding timestamps and validation data, then verifying the extended signatures.
  • Conformance testing: Checking signatures against the requirements of ETSI TS 119 152-1.

Our ETSI interoperability work

iGrant.io previously participated in the ETSI EAA Plugtests 2026, testing Electronic Attestations of Attributes against ETSI TS 119 472-1, with a focus on SD-JWT VC and ISO/IEC 18013-5 formats. This work examined how credentials generated by one implementation could be verified by another.

Our Interoperability and Compliance documentation records the Organisation Wallet Suite’s participation in ETSI interoperability testing. Multi-vendor cross-testing at Plugtests events helps us check our implementations against the ETSI specifications.

Why this matters

Implementing the same specification does not automatically mean that different systems will work together. Cross-validation can reveal differences in how implementations generate signatures, interpret validation information and respond to errors.

For public authorities, businesses and technology providers exchanging signed data, identifying these differences early can help reduce integration problems. The Plugtests provide a practical opportunity to assess compatibility against shared requirements and improve the reliability of CBOR-based signature implementations.

About ETSI

ETSI is an independent, not-for-profit organisation recognised by the European Union as a European Standards Organisation. It develops globally applicable standards for information and communication technologies, bringing together industry, research institutions, governments and public bodies. Its work includes electronic signatures and trust infrastructures, with standards development and interoperability testing supporting reliable digital transactions.

About iGrant.io

Based in Stockholm, Sweden, iGrant.io develops digital identity wallet infrastructure for individuals and organisations. Its Organisation Wallet Suite and Data Wallet support credential issuance, storage, sharing and verification, helping public bodies and organisations integrate trusted data exchange into their services.
